Johnston ties league mark in Rockies win

September 9, 2005 - Pioneer League (PL)
Casper Ghosts News Release

Casper Rockies All-Star closer Andrew Johnston pitched the 9th inning of last night's 3-1 Rockies win to close out the 2005 season. The right-hander earned his 18th save of the season, tying the league record. Johnston, along with his fellow Casper pitchers, shut down Ogden to sweep the two-game set and win the season series.

Alan Johnson was amazing in his final outing, fanning a dozen men in six innings. He also gave up just two hits and one unearned run. Rockies reliever Jay Metzger earned the win, pitching a perfect 8th. Metzger tops the Rockies with six wins in 2005.

Casper native Jesse Brownell played the hero in front of the home fans, knocking in the game-winning RBI in the 8th.

In addition to Johnston's save title this season, infielder Corey Wimberly is the batting champion, hitting .381 with a league-high 107 hits. Wimberly also finished 2nd in the stolen base race with 36. Rockies slugger Chris Cook won the league home run title with 15 blasts in '05.

The year ends for Casper even at 38-38 overall, and just a game out of the spot for the playoffs.
