Louisville Fire News Release

Louisville Fire General Manager Dave Arnold announced today Tommy Johnson will return as the head coach of the Louisville Fire arenafootball2 team. Johnson, a former University of Alabama standout, will begin his first full season as the head coach of the Fire.

"It feels good to know that Mr. Wolford has the confidence in me to turn this thing around," commented Johnson, "This season we are going to have a full coaching staff from the beginning. We will be able to implement a system in training camp instead of the middle of the season."

Johnson was promoted to head coach last season, following the dismissal of Wally English after just two games. Johnson had been the defensive coordinator for the Fire since the franchise's inaugural season of 2001.

"Tommy and I have been here together since day one of this franchise. I know Tommy has knowledge of the game and the determination to put a winning team on the field in 2004," said Arnold.

The Fire finished 5-11 under Johnson in 2003; Johnson went 4-10 as the head coach. The Fire did however win two of their last three games to finish 2003 in third place in the Midwest Division of the National Conference.

Johnson made his first move of the off-season last week, signing former U of L tailback Tony Stallings. Johnson is currently putting together his coaching staff for the 2004 season and will announce his coaches in the next couple of weeks.

Johnson and the Fire will open the 2004 season in April. Season tickets start at just $49 and can be purchased by calling (502) 368-0009.
