Edmonton Capitals News Release
Mike Johnson lined a base hit thru a drawn in infield to drive home two runs in the bottom of the ninth and propel the Cracker-Cats to a 5-4 come-from-behind win. The win gave the 'Cats a 4-1 series win and sent the 1731 fans home happy on the last day of the 2007 season.
Goldeyes closer Matt Davis was in line to record his 19th save, but instead was tagged with the loss, falling to 6-2. The trouble started right from the get-go as Davis walked Tim Ryan to open the bottom of the ninth, moments later Ryan would advance to second on Corey Stang's second passed ball in as many days. The next hitter Dave Martinez attempted to sacrifice Ryan to third, bunting right back to Davis who one hopped a throw to third that eluded Aaron McEachran, and everyone ended up safe. Manager Gord Gerlach then brought Kevin House on to pinch run and one pitch later he was standing on second with his 24th steal of the year. That was when pitcher Mike Johnson, playing in centerfield for the second straight day, laced a single through the hole between first and second to score the tying and winning runs.
Cracker-Cat Mike Henry pitched an inning and a third of scoreless ball to record the win, his second in 2007.
The C-Cats finished the second half with a 19-29 record, exactly the same mark they achieved in the first half. The 25-23 Goldeyes will host the Gary SouthShore RailCats in round one of the playoffs beginning Tuesday night.
