JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 8, 2015) - Jacksonville Armada FC forwards Jemal Johnson and Alhassane Keita were named to the North American Soccer League's Team of the Week on Wednesday.
Both scored goals in the Armada FC's NASL debut 3-1 win over FC Edmonton last Saturday in front of an NASL Modern-Era record crowd of 16,164 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville.
Johnson found the back of the net just 12 seconds into the match, which set a new NASL record for earliest goal scored. It shattered the previous mark of 26 seconds, which was held by Fafà Picault, who scored his goal against Indy Eleven on Sept. 20, 2014, as a member of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. It was Johnson's 26th career goal scored.
Keita put the Armada FC up 2-0 on Saturday with a laser strike from just outside of the box. He was key in the club's attack against the Eddies, drawing extra defenders and keeping a frantic pace throughout the match. He was also named the Farah & Farah Man of the Match for his efforts.
Jacksonville will return to action at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday when it heads to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to take on the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Lockhart Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on CW17 (TV) in Jacksonville and streamed on sportsradiojax.iheart.com via the IHeart Radio app in addition to being available on ESPN3.com.
