(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Rattlers General Manager Jody Gage announced today that attackman John Grant has signed a deal with Major League Lacrosse to play for the Rattlers in 2005.

The Peterborough, Ontario, native returns to the field game after playing three seasons of summer box lacrosse in Canada. Last year, he guided the Peterborough Lakers to a Mann Cup Canadian indoor lacrosse championship.

The 30 year old played for the Rattlers in their inaugural season in 2001 and finished second in the league with 59 points (38+3+15) in 14 games. He was also named an MLL All-Star and earned league Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Grant has also excelled in the National Lacrosse League with the Rochester Knighthawks. In his six seasons with the K-Hawks, he has amassed 502 points in 77 games. He also owns the team's all-time marks for goals (239), assists (263) and points (502). Grant is a four-time All-Pro and a three-time league All-Star Game invitee (2002, 2004 and 2005). He also earned the 2000 NLL Rookie of the Year.

In college, he played two seasons at the University of Delaware and set single-season school records for assists (54), points (110) and points-per-game (6.47). In 1999, he was named the USILA National Collegiate Player of the Year and led the country in assists and points. He earned Brine/College Lacrosse USA Division I Player of the Year honors and was awarded the USILA Turnball Award as National Attackman of the Year. In addition, he was Delaware's first USILA First Team All-American. His other accolades included America East Player of the Year and an appearance in the North-South Game.

At the international level, he represented Team Canada in the Canada World Cup Challenge in 1999. In 2002, he played for Team Canada at the 2002 World Lacrosse Championships in Perth, Australia, and led Canada and the tournament with 26 points (18+8). At the event, he took home a silver medal and was named the Attackman of the Games. This past summer, he won the Heritage Cup with Team Canada.

Grant was originally assigned to the Rochester Rattlers in 2001 by the MLL, along with Ryan Powell and Marshall Abrams. He now re-joins a team fresh off a 7-5 record and a berth in the MLL Semifinals. Rochester opens its fifth season on Friday, May 27th at Long Island.
