Virginia Destroyers News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Wednesday, November 10 - TD Ameritrade Chairman JOE MOGLIA was announced as the President and Head Coach of the Virginia Destroyers expansion team that will commence play as the sixth United Football League franchise in 2011.

The former Dartmouth Defensive Coordinator has reestablished himself in the world of college football by joining the University of Nebraska staff as an Executive Advisor to the Head Football Coach. In the business world, both at TD Ameritrade and at Merrill Lynch, Moglia has led, strategized, and executed world-class plans in an extraordinary way for almost two decades on a national and global scale.

"We have and a new head coach who is a proven winner both on and off the field," said United Football League Commissioner MICHAEL HUYGHUE.

"Joe Moglia and I first discussed the idea of Joe returning to coaching six months ago. It was immediately evident that he has a passion for the game, a belief that he will succeed and an impressive football knowledge that has evolved during his years away from the sidelines and with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He will bring a unique perspective to the game that we believe will enable the Virginia Destroyers to be successful."

Moglia will assume his first professional head coaching position 27 years after he left the Defensive Coordinator role at Dartmouth, having won two Ivy League championships, to pursue a career in business. In 2009 he attended and observed spring practice at the University of Virginia before becoming Executive Advisor to the head football coach at the University of Nebraska.

"I am proud to be named the head coach of the Virginia Destroyers," said Moglia. "That has been my goal and is where my heart, passion and skill sets lie. The head coach is your CEO. He is your leader of the program for players, fans and the community and I have been doing that at a national and global level for the last two decades.

"I have spent my entire life coaching, both in business and for 18 years coaching football. I know football, but what I really know is how to bring together a team, a program and an organization in a way that enables them to win. I have done that my entire life. I am ready to do that on the football field."

Moglia has already started to assemble his coaching staff and has appointed 21-year NFL veteran coach TOM OLIVADOTTI as his Defensive Coordinator. His vast experience includes roles with the Houston Texans (2004-05), New York Giants (2000-03), Minnesota Vikings (1996-99), Miami Dolphins (1987- 1995), and Cleveland Browns (1985-1986) in various positions including defensive coordinator, linebackers coach, and defensive backs coach. His NFL career highlights include reaching the 2000 Super Bowl with the New York Giants, 12 NFL playoff appearances, six divisional titles, and one conference title.

"You could not ask for a better coach," said Olivadotti of Moglia's appointment. "His expertise in the business world added to his football coaching experience and knowledge makes him an attractive hire."

Nebraska Head Coach BO PELINI said of Moglia: "Joe has been a great asset to our football program. Our entire football staff at Nebraska has learned a lot from him. He is a phenomenal person and leader, and a very driven person. People just take to Joe. He has a personality that people are drawn to, and I think that is part of the reason he has been so successful in everything he has done. Joe has sacrificed a lot to chase his dream of being a head coach, and I am happy for him that this opportunity has come along. He will be a great leader for that organization, and positive presence in the UFL."

Nebraska Athletic Director and Hall of Fame Coach TOM OSBORNE added: "Joe has immersed himself in our football program the past two seasons, and he is prepared to get back into the coaching profession on a full-time basis. Joe brings unique attributes to the head coaching position - ones that I think will be beneficial for the organization. He certainly has a proven track record as a leader, and I commend the UFL and the Virginia organization for thinking in a non-traditional way and deciding to hire Joe."

Destroyers General manager and former Washington Redskins Super Bowl-winning quarterback DOUG WILLIAMS said: "I have played under some great coaches and know that strong leadership and a winning mentality are qualities all head coaches must possess. Joe has clearly proven himself in those areas and will be an inspirational leader for the Virginia Destroyers."

Current team President ED REYNOLDS will preside over Destroyers business until January 1, 2011, when Moglia will assume full responsibility for the organization. "Ed has played a valuable part in the team's growth in the market and done an outstanding job preparing the President's role for Joe to assume," said Commissioner Huyghue. "His local knowledge and contacts will ensure a smooth transition in the New Year."
