Boston Pride News Release

Boston Pride captain. Role model. Two-time Denna Laing Award Winner.

Jillian Dempsey has earned the honor for the second straight season. As selected by the NWHLPA, the Denna Laing Award is given to the player who most exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to her sport.

"I am incredibly humbled that players across the league selected me as the Denna Laing Award winner this season," said Dempsey. "Denna continues to be an inspiration with her strength and diligence, and I'm honored and so proud to be associated with the award given in her name."

Dempsey's teammates and countless friends and admirers around the league have often noted that she lives and breathes hockey. And that love for the game is apparent any time you watch Dempsey play.

"I can understand why the players would believe strongly that Jill deserved the Laing Award for the second straight year," said NWHLPA executive director Anya Battaglino. "In my view, in a league filled with incredible athletes and role models who devote so much of themselves to the game, no one is more than deserving of an award named after Denna Laing than Jillian Dempsey."

In addition to her play on the ice - she tied for the Pride lead with 10 goals on the season - Dempsey has always been ready and willing to give back to the game in the community. She is the first two-time winner of the Laing Award, named after Denna Laing, the longtime teammate of Dempsey's at Harvard and with the Pride.

When Dempsey first won the award named in her honor a year ago, Laing said, "I've been teammates with Jill for 15 years, so I may be biased but she lives and loves hockey more than anyone I know. Her dedication to the game and her teammates is unparalleled."
