Boulier, Mrazova, Packer Named Fans' Three Stars of the Season
March 20, 2019 - Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) News Release
More than 7,000 fans have spoken, and made their selections for the NWHL Fans' Three Stars of the Season. The winners are Amanda Boulier of the Minnesota Whitecaps, Katerina Mrázová of the Connecticut Whale, and Madison Packer of the Metropolitan Riveters.
All three were NWHL All-Stars in 2018-19, and all three have forged deep connections with their fans - Packer in all four seasons of the NWHL, Boulier over two seasons in Connecticut and Minnesota, and Mrázová in her rookie season with the Whale.
Boulier was instrumental in helping the Whitecaps clinch the regular season championship and Isobel Cup in their first NWHL season, playing a vital role on the blue line as well as on the scoresheet. She led all defenders in the league with five goals and tied for the league lead among blueliners with 13 points. Boulier also contributed strong defense on Minnesota's top D pair with Lee Stecklein, recording a plus-6 rating in 16 regular season games.
"I am humbled to have been selected as one of the Fans' Three Stars of the NWHL season," said Boulier. "I consider it an honor to be held in this regard by the dedicated fan base of the NWHL and believe their role in our success is as important as any. To our Whitecaps fans in the State of Hockey: thank you for helping us bring our first Isobel Cup to Minnesota!"
Mrázová proved to be a human highlight reel in her first NWHL season, using her smooth moves to delight fans and frustrate opponents. She led the Whale with 12 points on six goals and six assists. She recorded four multi-point performances, including scoring a pair of goals against the Riveters in November in the midst of a five-game point streak.
Packer once again had a strong season for the Riveters, tying for the team lead with eight goals and finishing second on the Rivs with 13 points. She had three goals in two games in the team's home opening weekend against the Whitecaps in October and exploded for four points (1-3-4) in a 6-3 win over Connecticut in January. She also scored a highlight-reel goal in a shootout win over Buffalo in the regular season finale, helping the Riveters earn home ice for the play-in game.
"I am very grateful for the acknowledgment by the fans of the NWHL," said Packer. "It was a great year of hockey across the league, so to be recognized by those who watch us on a daily basis means a lot to me."
Among the players also receiving strong support from the fans were Kendall Coyne Scofield of the Whitecaps, Gigi Marvin of the Pride, Audra Richards of the Riveters, and Hayley Scamurra of the Beauts.
