Fargo-Moorhead Jets News Release
Fargo (ND) The Fargo-Moorhead Jets began this season in search of a superstar with the loss of Phil Fox. As the season began in early September, the roster had many returning players including a few who have since stepped up to become leaders on and off the ice including second-year players Jesse Echternach (Bemidji, MN) and Chris Connolly (Duluth, MN) among others.
Then on October 13th, that leadership grew exponentially with the return of third-year player Matt Moreland (Grand Forks, ND) who had started the fall with the University of North Dakota. When the opportunity arised for Moreland to come back to the FM Jets, both sides hurriedly agreed and the result has been success on both sides.
The FM Jets have won eight of the nine games in which Moreland has played, including a split with the Marquette Rangers at the Carlson Coliseum last weekend. In addition, Moreland has scored at least a point in each of those games. That includes a goal in his first eight games back with the FM Jets.
Despite playing in only nine games, Moreland is tied for fourth on the team in points (15), and is second in goals (10). His 1.7 ppg is the highest on the team and third highest in the North American Hockey League.
With his quick burst to begin his latest FM Jets' campaign, Moreland has 45 career goals over three seasons and is closing in on 50-goal plateau. Four other FM Jet players have accomplished the career milestone in the team's history including Tom Dickhudt, Dain Prewitt, Chris Myhro and Phil Fox, all of whom have moved on to Division I schools.
Streak Ends, But New One Begins...Maybe
The FM Jets saw the second longest winning streak in team history come to an end on Nov. 3 with a 6-3 loss at the hands of the Marquette Rangers at the Carlson Coliseum. The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak, and it also marked the most goals ever allowed by the FM Jets at the Carlson Coliseum. However, the FM Jets rebounded the next night to win 5-1 against Marquette, in a game they never trailed in.
The FM Jets haven't lost consecutive games at any point this season.
Making the Goals Count
Matt Moreland's (Grand Forks, ND) three-game winning goals leads the FM Jets, and is tied for third in the North American Hockey League.
