Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - A night after a walkoff winner from Koby Clemens, the JetHawks got a far less dramatic - but no less significant - win over the Lake Elsinore Storm. They scored early and got another fantastic start from Leandro Cespedes and won their second straight home series over the Storm. With the win, the JetHawks moved to within three games of the second half division lead.
The JetHawks got to work right out of the gates - and reached a milestone in doing so. J.B. Shuck led off the game with a single to extend his California League lead in hits, and then Ebert Rosario singled to left to move Shuck to third. Koby Clemens then grounded out to second base to get the JetHawks on the board and drive in his 100th run of the season.
They struck for two more in the second inning. Marcos Cabral doubled to open the frame and was brought home by an Andy Simunic single and a throwing error by Storm second baseman Beamer Weems. Simunic moved to third on a wild pitch by Lake Elsinore's Wynn Pelzer and scored Craig Corrado singled to left. They tacked on two more in the third when Matt Weston homered to left field.
That was plenty enough offense for Lancaster starter Leandro Cespedes. He retired the first six Storm batters of the ballgame and held Lake Elsinore scoreless for the first six innings on just two hits. The Storm did break through in the seventh, when Brian Joynt homered to left.
Phil Rummel took the JetHawks the rest of the way, even though the Storm did mount a ninth inning rally to push two more runs across.
The JetHawks will go for their first sweep of the 2009 season tomorrow night; they welcome the Storm to the Hangar at 7:00 PM. The radio broadcast can be heard on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com beginning at 6:45.
Friday the 14th kicks off one of the great annual traditions in the Antelope Valley, Aerospace Appreciation Weekend. The Lancaster JetHawks will acknowledge the vital role the aerospace industry plays in the community and in the lives of the thousands of Valley residents it employs. The weekend opens with a fireworks show after Friday's game presented by Edwards Federal Credit Union.
