JetHawks Open Homestand With Win

June 2, 2006 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(Lancaster, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks have found all kinds of ways to win baseball games over the last two weeks, and that trend continued Friday night at Clear Channel Stadium. After taking a 3-1 lead through three innings, the JetHawks pitchers held on to beat Lake Elsinore 3-2 in the first game of a six game homestand. The JetHawks are now just five games below .500 after being as many as 12 games below as recently as mid-May.

The JetHawks scored quickly off Storm starter Dirk Hayhurst. Emilio Bonifacio led off the first inning with a single to center field, followed by an RBI triple down the left field line by Chris Rahl. A sacrifice fly by Carlos Gonzalez brought home Rahl and staked the JetHawks to the early lead. Gonzalez added another sacrifice fly in the third inning.

Esmerling Vasquez continued his solid transition from being a relief pitcher to a starter. Vasquez allowed just one unearned run on three hits in four innings. The bullpen continued the success. A day shy of his 23rd birthday, Matt Fowles pitched two and two thirds innings to earn his first win. Hipolito Guerrero and Matt Elliott closed the game out, with Elliott getting credit for his 13th save.

The JetHawks continue the homestand Saturday night against Lake Elsinore. Matt Green (2-4) gets the start for Lancaster against Mike Ekstrom. First pitch is at 5:00 p.m. with the Burns Pharmacy JetHawks Pre-Game Show on Magic 1340 AM and www.jethawks.com starting at 4:45 p.m. The JetHawks Endless Summer Weekend continues at Clear Channel Stadium with the first 1,000 fans in attendance Saturday receiving a free JetHawks Beach Towel, presented by Wal-Mart and Jefferies and Associates.

The JetHawks are home June 2-7 for a six game homestand including the Endless Summer Kick-Off weekend, complete with fireworks and special giveaways. Tickets and mini plan packages are currently available for the 2006 season and can be ordered by calling the JetHawks at (661) 726-5400 or by logging on to the team website at www.jethawks.com.
