
JetHawks Falter Against Mavericks

(ADELANTO, CA) - One day after the JetHawks pitched the full game and held the Mavericks scoreless through the middle and late innings, it was the Mavericks turn to do the same thing. JetHawks hitters got just one hit after the third inning as High Desert beat Lancaster 7-3. The loss drops the JetHawks back to fourth place, two games behind Inland Empire and 5.5 games back in the wild card race.
For the third straight game, the JetHawks took the lead first. With two outs in the second inning, Brandon Burgess and Jon Zeringue both reached base. Derek Bruce tripled into the right field corner to score the two runs. Chris Rahl hit his twelfth home run of the season to open the third inning, putting the JetHawks up 3-1.
Esmerling Vasquez, who had an ERA below three over is last four starts, struggled with his control, hitting three batters and walking one more. He scraped through the first few innings, but High Desert tied the game in the fourth. The Mavericks pulled away with four runs in the fifth inning.
Jared Doyle and Mark Rosen kept the Mavericks off the scoreboard over the final 3.2 innings. Rahl finished 2-4 with the home run, the only JetHawk hitter with more than one hit in the game.
The JetHawks conclude their four-game road trip in High Desert Thursday night. Kellen Raab (8-8) pitches for Lancaster against Patrick Green (1-1) of the Mavericks. Game time is 7:05, with the Burns Pharmacy JetHawks Pre-Game show beginning at 7:00 on Magic 1340 and online at JetHawks.com.
