Jersey Express News Release
East Orange, N.J. (Tuesday, May 11, 2010) - The Jersey Express of the American Basketball Association announced today the date and location of an upcoming open tryout session for its 2010-11 season. The tryouts will occur on Saturday, June 19th, and they will be hosted at East Orange Campus High School, the official home of the Jersey Express.
"I'm looking forward to seeing new faces," Express head coach Casaundra Smith stated. "I hope the success we had last season and the stability of this franchise inspires more guys to trust that this ABA team is the one for them. We are the Northeast Division Champions, and we'll build on our Final Eight appearance from last season. Here's the opportunity that our local players have been looking for."
The cost of these tryouts will be $100 (money order only) if players register before Friday, June 18th. To send an advanced payment, mail your contact information and a money order payable to BNC Sports, LLC, at P.O. Box 537, Rockaway, New Jersey 07866. On the day of the tryouts, the cost to participate will be $125, and cash will be the only accepted form of payment. Registration for tryouts will start promptly at 3:30 p.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. The address for the host site of East Orange Campus High School is 344 Prospect Street in East Orange, New Jersey, and anyone interested in pre-registering online can do so at www.jerseyexpress.net.
The Jersey Express is one of the longest running franchises in the newly reformed ABA, with the team entering its sixth season of play during the upcoming 2010-11 season. The team has made the playoffs in each of its past three seasons, including back-to-back appearances in the ABA Elite Eight. The Express received a handful of season accolades this past year with guard Ahmad "Beanie" Mosby being named the 2009-10 ABA Rookie of the Year, while forward Devin Davis received All-ABA Second Team honors with honorable mentions going to center Antoinne Morgano and Mosby.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
