Jerice Passes Demond
March 7, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release
A little RazorShark history got lost in the dramatic win by Rochester over the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry Sunday. Point guard Jerice Crouch moved into the number three spot on the Sharks career scoring list.
"It's a great feat because there've been a lot of great players here before me," claims Crouch.
One of those was a close friend. Greece Olympia grad Demond Stewart, an original RazorShark in 2005. In three seasons with the team, Stewart amassed 1129 total points. Crouch passed him with his first basket of the game Sunday.
"My first year here he was a big help to me," said Crouch. "I was 22 years old when I first got here. He was in my ear letting me know everything is going to be all right. He propelled me to be in the position I'm in now."
Stewart made his first return to a Sharks game as a spectator last week when he served as the featured celebrity judge of the YMCA Slam Dunk Contest. Stewart was cut from training camp two years ago, a decision Coach Rod Baker still says was his toughest with the team. Crouch remembers.
"It was an emotional breakup, but that's what happens in this business of basketball thing. It was great to see him again."
Jerice still has a way to go to move up further on that scoring list. He is 424 points short of James Reaves and began the year more than 1,400 behind franchise leader Keith Friel, who continues to add to his total.
