Herriman, Utah - Real Monarchs defender Jenthe Mertens has returned to SK Beveren of Jupiler Pro League following the termination of his loan. The versatile right-footed defender arrived in May 2023 after playing for the Belgian side for two and half years.
Mertens played in five matches in MLS NEXT Pro, starting three of them. Most recently, Mertens played a key role in the Monarchs five-game unbeaten run, as the team made a late season playoff push. During his time at Real Monarchs, he posted a 70% successful pass rate while enjoying a 100% rating in aerial duels won, showcasing his contributions on both sides of the ball.
Real Monarchs was eliminated from playoff contention last Friday at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium by Colorado Rapids 2 with two games left to play. Tacoma Defiance will travel to Herriman for the Monarchs' last home match of the season on Friday, September 15th, before Real Monarchs travel to Portland Timbers 2 for the season finale.
