Jeff Gold Goes The Distance in Black Bears Win
July 24, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview-Kelso: July 24, 2011: Jeff Gold (University of Oregon) received the honor of a selection to the West Coast League All-Star game last week, and he played like it when his team needed it. Facing the prospect of a home sweep at the hands of the Corvallis Knights, Gold dialed up his second complete game of the season. The righty scattered six hits and three walks while striking out a half-dozen Knights.
The Black Bears struck in their half of the first as Braxton Miller (Lewis-Clark St.) and Kyle Garlick (University of Oregon) batted 1-2 and reached base. Miller came in to score on a fielder's choice by Greg Velazquez (Cal St. Fullerton), who was batting in the cleanup spot.
The Black Bears struck back in the bottom of the 6th frame on back-to-back extra-base hits by Velazquez and Didier (LSU) that provided the final margin for the game.
The team has a couple of days off for the All-Star Break, but will be back at Story Field on Wednesday for Burgerville Family Night and the beginning of a slate against the Bellingham Bells. On Wednesday a package of four general admission tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas is just $28. The following two games will be Thirsty Thursday with $2 beer all night long and Las Rocas Fabulous Friday with the Gallery of Diamonds Diamond Dig afterward.
