Jaxx creep closer to first

(Zebulon, NC) May 2nd- The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx pulled to within a half game of the Huntsville Stars for first place in the Northern Division with a 5-1 win over the Carolina Mudcats. The win clinched the five game series for the Diamond Jaxx and improves their record to 7-2 on the ten game road trip.

Mike Wilson slugged two home runs and drove in four of the five runs to lead the Diamond Jaxx. Jon Nelson and Mike Saunders had two hits each to help highlight a nine hit Diamond Jaxx attack. Travis Chick picked up the win, moving his record to 2-1 on the season. Chick allowed a run on three hits in 2 1/3 innings of relief after Chris Jakubauskas left the game with two outs in the fourth inning.

Willie Glen was the starter and loser for the Mudcats. Glen (3-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings of work. Manuel Mayorson drove in the only run of the night for Carolina, while Cameron Maybin and Andy Jenkins had two hits each to help lead an eight hit attack.

The final game of the series and road trip begins on Saturday afternoon at 5:15 CDT. Lefty Ryan Ketchner (1-0 5.85) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Carolina will start righty Brett Sinkbeil (1-1 3.14).
