PORTLAND, August, 6, 2007 - The first community event the Portland LumberJax ever participated in was Jack's Team Carnival in 2005, an event aimed at raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The Jax will continue to help fight the disease by participating in the seventh annual Jack's Team Carnival for a Cure on Saturday, August 11 from 1-5 p.m. Mascot Jaxon will appear.
Jack's Team Carnival has been put on annually since 2001 to raise money for the JDRF and has now collected over $40,000. Jack's Team was formed in 1999 by the friends and family of Jack Daraee, who was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at the age of 18 months. The group has participated in the JDRF "Walk to Cure Diabetes" every year since its inception and later created Jack's Team Carnival in order to raise more funds to fight the disease.
