Portland Lumberjax News Release

PORTLAND, November 27, 2007 - It is official! The Portland LumberJax have signed National Lacrosse League scoring machine, forward Dan Dawson to a one-year agreement, as was announced today by Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan.

Formerly of the Arizona Sting, Dawson was the first overall selection in the 2007 National Lacrosse League Dispersal Draft by the Jax. The six-year veteran was second in the NLL in points (107), third in goals (47) and tied for second in assists (60) during the 2007 season.

Arguably the league's top offensive player, Dawson scored at least three points in every game he appeared last season. He matched a career-high with six goals vs. New York on Feb. 2, 2007 and added a season-high seven assists on Mar. 30, 2007 against the Colorado Mammoth. Dawson even had a streak where he scored at least six points in 12 straight games (Jan. 13-Mar. 31).

Dawson is a welcomed addition to an offense that scored a league-low 153 goals last season. In the 91 career regular season games that he has appeared in, Dawson averages 4.45 points per game. That figure increases to 5.5 ppg in playoff games.

"Dan instantly brings our offense to a whole other level," said Keenan. "He will obviously score his share of goals, but with the attention he draws, a lot of space will open up for our other offensive players."

Jax fans will vividly remember Dawson and the regular sting he left against the team. In four regular season games, Dawson scored nine goals and added 11 assists against the Jax. In a crippling 14-11 playoff loss to the Sting in the first round of the 2006 playoffs, Dawson scored three goals and added five assists.

"Dan makes everyone around him a better player," said Keenan. "He's an all-around team player and will soon be relocating to Portland. Look for him to be a major presence in the community."

Dawson will make his Jax debut on December 1st during the second weekend of training camp. The Jax will practice from 11 a.m.-12:40 p.m. and 8:05-9:45 p.m. at the Tualatin Indoor Soccer Center.
