Portland Lumberjax News Release
PORTLAND, October 29, 2008 - The Portland LumberJax have re-signed forward Peter Morgan to a one-year contract, Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan announced today. Morgan scored 17 goals and tallied 18 assists for 35 points last season with the Jax.
During Portland's postseason surge, Morgan went off, scoring six goals and adding 11 assists in three postseason games. In Portland's 18-16 win over the San Jose Stealth in the West Division Semifinal, Morgan matched a franchise-high with seven assists.
Six days later, the 6'6" sharp shooter scored four goals and added three assists as the Jax captured the West Division Championship during a 16-12 win over the Calgary Roughnecks. In the National Lacrosse League Championship Game, Morgan scored two goals and added an assist as Portland fell 14-13 to the Buffalo Bandits.
"I think the real Peter Morgan stood up down the stretch and in the playoffs last season," said Keenan. "He provides tremendous stability as he can play both ends of the floor with great authority. Peter should be a very valuable player for the Jax again this season."
Morgan enters his fourth season in the Rose City as the team's all-time leading goal scorer (59), tied for second in assists (72) and second in points scored (131). Tied for third in games played (45), Morgan has scored at least one point in every game he's appeared in with Portland.
