Utah Snowbears News Release
Jared Ramirez came off the Utah Snowbears bench and led the undefeated Snowbears to a 121-88 win in a wild and entertaining ABA game Saturday Night. Ramirez, from Northern Colorado, hit an array of three pointers and acrobatic shots to score 14 points in the second quarter for Utah, fending off a Tijuana Dragon team with upset on its mind.
Head Coach Ike Austin was ejected with the 2:44 left in the third on consecutive technicals, and older brother Alex Austin stood up for little brother Ike by scoring 7 points to extend a ten point Utah lead to 19 at the end of the third quarter. Tyrone Hayes added all of his 11 points in that final 2:44 to rejuvenate the Utah squad.
Gene Shipley led the way for the Dragons, as he and Adrian Brown had double doubles for Acie Earl's team. Shipley battled his way to a game high 26 points and 14 rebounds, while Brown added 18 points and 12 rebounds in the losing effort.
The Snowbears crusied down the stretch, finishing with 8 players in double figures for the night. Ramirez finished with a team high 23 points, while Austin chipped in with 19. Clay Tucker, Ty Hayes, Tony Farmer, Babacar Camara, Harold Arceneaux and Antoine Broxsie all finished in double figures for the 17-0 squad. Dubrey Black added 14 for Tijauna.
The Utah Snowbears will host Fresno on Friday and Los Angeles on Saturday. All Snowbears games can be heard on their web site at www.utahsnowbears.net or on 1550 KMWI in Salt Lake City. For tickets please call (801) 533-2327 (BEAR).
