Orlando Apollos News Release
TODAY'S NEWS
The Apollos held their 13th practice of training camp and final of the week on Saturday. The team is has their usual off-day on Sunday.
THREE WEEKS OUT: Today is the three-week mark until the inaugural game of The Alliance of American Football when head coach Steve Spurrier and the Apollos match up against Kevin Coyle and the Atlanta Legends on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET at UCF's Spectrum Stadium.
THE WASHINGTON MANTRA: Each of the Apollos' coaches on head coach Steve Spurrier's staff has their own style and way of going about things. On Saturday, offensive tackles coach Todd Washington, a two-time Super Bowl champion himself as a player with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002) and as a coach with the Baltimore Ravens (2012), talked about the mantra for his unit: "You've got to get better at something every day. I don't care what it is, whether it's your footwork, your hand placement, hat placement, pad level - you've got to find one thing of your game you've got to improve at, and that makes you a better player."
SEEING DOUBLE: Apollos players were doing double-takes as center Jordan McCray's twin brother, Justin, and their father were in town to watch Saturday's practice. Jordan spoke about how his father and brother Justin, who plays offensive guard for the Green Bay Packers, help out with each other's game: "He helps me out with the little things, and if I see something in his game that might be messing up, I try to help him out. A lot of it is football. Our dad was our offensive line coach, so he wants to hear all the stuff as well."
