Orlando Apollos News Release

TODAY'S NEWS

The Apollos returned to the practice field in helmets and shells on Thursday after a going full-contact in pads with the Arizona Hotshots Wednesday.

BACK TO BUSINESS: The Apollos now have a sense of what they need to work on following their first chance to see the competition in The Alliance at yesterday's practice with Arizona, which was the 10th day of practice at training camp. The team has essentially reached the halfway point of training camp, which lasts the month of January in San Antonio.

THE APOLLOS' JOURNEYMAN: Apollos cornerback Brandon Dixon found his way to the Apollos after spending time on eight different NFL rosters since first being drafted out of Northwest Missouri State in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. Coming from a smaller school, Dixon says, "It made me hungrier, and it humbled me, too. Even though I got drafted, but I was late round, sixth round, I got overlooked. I've still got that dog mentality because I feel like I'm better than some guys that are in the league."

ORNDOFF LIVING THE DREAM: Growing up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Apollos tight end Scott Orndoff lived and breathed Steelers football. Two of his favorite players, Hines Ward and Troy Polamalu (he had jerseys for both), have been around Apollos camp this month as part of The Alliance of American Football's executive committee. It's been surreal for the former Pittsburgh Panther, who spent time in the NFL with the Steelers, Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars before signing with the Apollos.

The Apollos have signed DT Mike Ramsay (Duke) and waived DE Tyrell Chavis (Penn State).

The Apollos are allocated players who went to college in the state of Florida - for a complete breakdown of the roster, check the Training Camp Report tab on the Apollos media website.

The Orlando Apollos team headquarters while in training camp in San Antonio is the University of the Incarnate Word - all practices are open to the public.

A member of The Alliance of American Football, the Orlando Apollos are led by an experienced professional coaching, playing and front office staff featuring head coach Steve Spurrier, team president Mike Waddell and general manager Tim Ruskell.

The Apollos compete in The Alliance of American Football with the Atlanta Legends, Birmingham Iron, Memphis Express, Arizona Hotshots, Salt Lake Stallions, San Antonio Commanders and San Diego Fleet. The name Orlando Apollos is inspired by Apollo, Greek god of the sun, who is often depicted as an archer. The Apollos' colors are derived from two shades of orange which are reflective of the warm Florida sunshine that is common to Orlando and central Florida, and the color navy also pays respect to the Apollo Space mission and the entire Florida Space Coast. The Apollos' arrow points east toward Florida.

Orlando Apollos' home games will be played at Spectrum Stadium. Fans can purchase season tickets for as low as $75 at www.orlandoapollos.com or by calling 833-AAF-2019. Apollos game day parking is also now on sale. For more information on the Apollos, visit the team's website and be sure to follow The Apollos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
