Traverse City North Stars News Release

JANESVILLE - David Russ had a goal and an assist, Derek Jacobson set up a pair of scores, and David Jacobson stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Janesville Jets blanked the Traverse City North Stars on Saturday evening at Janesville Ice Arena by a 4-0 count in the opener of a two-game series in southeast Wisconsin.

The Stars outshot the Jets 22-17 through 40 minutes of action, but could not connect on their chances and were shut out for the first time since Dec. 5, 2009. Russ' goal 10:46 into the affair proved to be the game-winner, and late first- and second-period goals put the visitors away.

Traverse City (7-3-1) was 0-for-5 on the power play, while Janesville converted on one of its three advantages. Brennan Knoblock (Macomb, MI/Pickering OJHL) made 23 saves for the North Stars.

The teams will square off again on Sunday afternoon in a 3 p.m. ET matinee, before the North Stars return to the friendly confines of Centre ICE Arena next weekend for a pair of contests with Port Huron. The series opener against the Fighting Falcon will feature a ‘Freaky Friday' costume contest, with the winner claiming a Great Wolf Lodge Family Suite, while Saturday will be the first installment of ‘Saturday Night Fever' and the postgame ‘Dancing with the (North) Stars' event sponsored by Z-93 FM. Both home contests face- off at 7 p.m.
