State College Spikes News Release
STATE COLLEGE, PA-The Jamestown Jammers broke open a scoreless tie with a five-run fourth inning and went on to defeat the State College Spikes, 7-0, on Sunday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
A crowd of 4,717, the third-largest crowd of the season, packed the ballpark as State College (22-22) was held to seven singles on the evening. Ty Summerlin was the only Spike with two hits in the game.
Jamestown (16-28) took the lead with five runs on four hits off of State College starter Ricardo Paulino (0-3) in the fourth inning. The Jammers added two runs in the ninth to provide the final margin of victory.
Sandy Rosario (4-2) once again pitched a stellar game at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for Jamestown, going the first seven innings and striking out six to earn the win. Rosario scattered five hits and two walks in the effort, and ran his scoreless streak against State College to 12 innings.
The Spikes were kept off the scoreboard for just the second time in 2009, with the Rosario and the Jammers responsible for both whitewashes. The Dominican also started and earned credit for the victory in a 5-0 Jamestown win over State College on July 11.
Paulino took the loss for the Spikes after going a total of four innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits. The right-hander also struck out two batters on the evening.
Monday, the Spikes finish off their two-game set against the Jammers with a 7:05 p.m. matchup at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College will send right-hander Kyle McPherson (1-2) to the mound to face Jamestown right-hander Skyler Crawford (1-0).
