Jackson Drives in Winner in Seventh

CHANTILLY, VA -- Amber Jackson finds ways to help the Glory win late in games and this time it was an RBI single with two on in the bottom of the seventh to give the Glory a 3-2 victory in the series finale against Rockford on Sunday night.
Jessica Moore was the star of the game for the Glory by hitting her second home run of the season over the centerfield fence in the second inning and driving in another go-ahead run in the sixth inning to put the Glory up 2-1 at the time.
The game was relatively quiet until the fourth inning when Sandy Vojik punched a two-out single to right with Stephanie Best on second. Best came around third and Nicole Barber's throw from right appeared to not be in time but Best was called out at the plate to keep the score 1-0 Glory.
Shanna Diller then smacked her third home run of the season in the sixth to tie the game at one. Moore answered back in the sixth with her RBI single, then the seventh happened.
In the top of the seventh, Savannah Brown doubled down the right field line over the glove of Jessica Dignon who arrived in right field seconds earlier in a late substitution. Vojik grounded out to short to put Brown at third with one out. Audrey Rendon then delivered a line drive single to left to tie the game at two. Following a bunt single by Erin Evans to put two speedy runners at first and second and the dangerous Lindsey Gardner at the plate, all heck broke loose.
Garnder fell behind 0-2 to Desiree Serrano (8-5) then time was called as a conference in the circle ensued. Following the conference, Serrano threw a ball then Gardner hit a hard line drive down the third base line that appeared fair and would have scored both runners. However, the plate umpire called the ball foul and Gardner came back to the plate to hit another ground ball to third, this time right to Sara Larquier who had her right foot on the base and her left foot in the baseline from second. Larquier caught the ball and threw to first for what appeared to be an inning-ending double-play but that too was called foul. Gardner and Tonya Callahan then popped out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Bures delivered a ground ball to the short stop Rendon who couldn't handle the ball. After a sacrifice by LaDonia Hughes put Buers at second, Oli Keohohou was intentionally walked bringing up Jackson who delivered the game-winning hit and ending the wild affair.
The Glory are now 7-1 all time in Fairfax County against Rockford. Allison Kime fell to 5-4 on the season with the loss.
The Glory will open an eight-game/nine-day series with Philadelphia beginning on Friday at the Westfield Softball Complex. The first four games of the series will be in Washington with a day off July 29 before the teams resume the series in Allentown, Pa. The Glory trail the Force by percentage points in the standings for first place.
