Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks outfielder Nic Jackson has been named Rawlings Northern League Player of the Month for July, and Gary SouthShore RailCats pitcher Tony Cogan has been selected the Rawlings Pitcher of the Month for July.

Jackson, who leads the league with 62 RBI on the season, batted .376 (41-for-109) with nine doubles, four home runs, 32 RBI, and 19 runs scored in the month. He also had six stolen bases in seven attempts in that span. In July, he collected at least one RBI in 21 of 27 games and a hit in 22 of 27 games. His month also included 13 multi-hit games and a 15-game hitting streak (July 15th - 29th).

He currently ranks amongst the league leaders in multiple categories: first in RBI (62) and hits (89), third in average (.338), fifth in home runs (13) and on-base percentage (.404). Jackson received Player of the Week honors for the Week ending July 26th.

The 6-3, 200-pounder, is an eight-year veteran and former third round draft pick (76th pick overall) of the Chicago Cubs in the 2000 Amateur Draft out of the University of Richmond (Richmond, VA). Over his career, he spent parts of two seasons at Triple-A and three years at Double-A. Besides the Cubs, he also played for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies organizations.

Players also receiving Player of the Month votes were Juan Diaz (.301, 12 HR, 35 RBI) of the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Aharon Eggleston (.406, 0 HR, 17 RBI) of the Kansas City T-Bones. He was twice named Northern League Pitcher of the Week in the month as he had a string of 27 consecutive scoreless innings from July 10th to July 22nd. His scoreless innings streak ended on July 22nd when he gave up an unearned run in the eighth inning versus Schaumburg. Another highlight of the month came on July 14th versus Kansas City when he hurled a complete game shutout. It is one of only two nine-inning complete game shutouts pitched in the league in '09. On the year, he currently ranks seventh in the league in ERA (3.87) and is tied for fourth in wins (6). Cogan was third in the league in strikeouts (31) and ERA (2.25) in the month of July.

The 6-2, 200-pounder was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 12th round of the 1999 Amateur Draft. He debuted in the major leagues in only his third season in 2001, pitching 39 games in relief for the Royals. He eventually resurrected his career with the Sioux Falls Canaries in 2005 prior to joining the RailCats in 2007. Cogan led the Northern League with 25 saves in 2007 and in 2008 as a starter, he went 6-3 with a 2.08 ERA (2nd in the league).

Other pitchers receiving consideration for Pitcher of the Month were Matt Mossey (2-0, 1.41 ERA, 10 SO) of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Cogan's Gary-SouthShore RailCats teammate Chris Jones (4-1, 3.05 ERA, 28 SO).
