Jacks slay the Dragon (Brahmas), 5-2

North Richland Hills, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes scored four unanswered goals in the final two periods including two by Hampus Sjodahl to beat the Lone Star Brahmas 5-2 Saturday night at NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills, TX. Jon Flakne (4-1-0) was sharp in the victory making 32 saves on 34 shots. Saturday's win at NYTEX was the Jacks first in Lone Star since Oct. 26, 2013, and second in team history.

Odessa allowed the first goal of the game Saturday night and their first shorthanded goal against of the year at 8:15 of the first period when Hogan Davidson (9) beat Jon Flakne on a breakaway after an offensive zone turnover. Matt Rypien (3) tied the game at 12:10 on a wraparound that snuck through Connor O'Brien's five-hole, but 55 seconds later Thomas Brejcha recaptured the Brahmas lead when he redirected a Cam Clarke pass backdoor to give Lone Star a 2-1 lead.

In the second, Ryan MacKellar sniped home his sixth of the season to tie the game 2-2 at 5:13. Just over a minute later Hampus Sjodahl bounced a shot off Brahma' d-man Dalton Skelly to give Odessa its first lead of the game at 6:22.

In the final frame, Pierce Pluemer jammed home his third of the season to give the Jacks a two-goal lead just two minutes and 18 seconds into the third. The Jacks weathered multiple Brahma' power plays, and Hampus Sjodahl netted an empty netter at 16:43 to seal the 5-2 win.

The Jacks continue their 6-game road trip with a pair of games in Corpus Christi starting next Friday at the American Bank Centre on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Odessa returns to Ector County Coliseum on March 4-5 as the IceRays visit West Texas for the final time in the 2015-16 regular season.
