Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI.--- The torrid Muskegon Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League have made yet another move in their concerted effort to maintain and to strengthen their major contender's status for the 2008-09 league crown.

On this date, the Lumberjacks have announced the acquisition of veteran defenseman SHAUN FISHER from the Bloomington Prairie Thunder. This transaction was in order to officially complete trades which the two teams had consummated earlier in the current campaign as it finalizes deals that saw the Lumberjacks send right wing Henry Kuster and center Bill Bagron to the Prairie Thunder organization for future considerations. The pair of previous transactions were done in early January.

FISHER, 29, comes to Muskegon having attained a resume replete with impressive credentials. In the present 2008-09 IHL season, the Detroit, MI native has been Bloomington's top-scoring defenseman, having registered 28-points in 55-games on 5-goals, 23-assists along with 56-PIM. In his last 20-games, he has prominently and pre-eminently collected 9-points on 1-goal, 8-assists with a sound and solid +6 rating. Included in his season numbers are 2-PPG, 9-PPA and 127-SOG. Fisher was in his second season with the Bloomington club, having been obtained by the Illinois-based team last season in a deal with the Flint Generals.

The 5-11.185lb left-shooting rearguard played nearly two seasons with the Generals (2006-07, 2007-08). In the 2004-05 season, he starred on the Kalamazoo Wings defense where in 65-games, he authored 33-points on 11-goals, 22-assists, 70-PIM with a stellar +22 rating before capping the campaign in the post-season playoffs with 6(2-2-4).

Fisher embarked on his professional journey in 2001 with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL following an outstand-ing major junior 'A" career in the west side suburban Detroit area with the Plymouth Whalers. In the 1999-00 season, he spearheaded the Whalers' drive to the OHL Championship Finals with a truly magnificent final junior 'A' season. In 59-regular season games, he averaged over one point a game, amassing 66-points on 17-goals, 49-assists with 57-PIM. He maintained such lofty and lusty point-productivity in the playoffs when he engineered 25-points in 21-post-season outings on 4-goals, 21-assists with 24-PIM.

The Lumberjacks newest acquisition has also seen action in the ECHL where he performed his craft for a total of 4-seasons. Fisher is a veteran of some 462-pro games, collecting 220-career points on 42-goals and 178-assists with 473-PIM. Fisher is expected to make his Lumberjacks debut on the defense for both of the club's home games coming up this weekend; Friday night, March 6th against Fort Wayne and Saturday night, March 7th when league-leading Port Huron comes to town. Both games are set for 7:00 pm at Walker Arena.

To make room for the arrival of Fisher, the Lumberjacks have waived defenseman Sam Miller. In 27-games with the 'Jacks, Miller was 27(0-4-4) with 43-PIM. Muskegon previously had procured Miller as a free agent after he had been placed on waivers by the Bloomington club.
