Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, Mich. - The Muskegon Lumberjacks lost in a hard-fought battle to the US National Team Development Program U18 by a final score of five to one.

USA's Frank Nazar opened the scoring at 4:16 of the first period when he one-timed a wrist shot from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Isaac Howard tallied the lone assist on Nazar's even-strength goal.

At 11:40, Cole Spicer would add another lamplighter for USNTDP on a back-door deflection while his team was on the power play. Frank Nazar and Jimmy Snuggerud picked up assists on the play to make it 2-0 in favor of USNTDP.

Flipping over to the middle frame, USA's Devin Kaplan pushed his team's lead to 3 goals after he tucked in a nifty backhand past Muskegon goaltender Cameron Korpi. Rutger McGroarty and Lane Hutson assisted Kaplan's goal at 15:24 of the second period.

In the third period, Muskegon was able to put a crooked number up on the scoreboard when Tom Sinclair pumped one past USA netminder Tyler Muszelik at 8:49. Jacob Guevin and Jake Richard factored in on the goal for assists.

Team USA would pad their lead when Jimmy Snuggerud and Cutter Gauthier slid pucks past Korpi, respectively. Snuggerud's goal at 16:29 was assisted by Frank Nazar and Isaac Howard while Gauthier's tally was assisted by McGroarty and Kaplan.

The Lumberjacks could not surmount a comeback bid and lost the game five-to-one.

In total, Team USA put up 29 shots-on-goal while the Lumberjacks managed to shoot 35 pucks on net.

Muskegon was 0-for-3 on the power play whereas Team USA was 3-for-4.

Both teams will play each other again tomorrow night at 6 pm for the fourth annual 'Play with Purpose' charity game at the Mitchel Keifer Memorial Rink at USA Hockey Arena. Click here to buy tickets.
