Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, Michigan (September 8th) - As the Lumberjack staff evaluates a host of players getting their first taste of USHL hockey, the Jacks drop home preseason opener to the Bloomington Thunder by a score of 7-2, de- spite outshooting the visiting Thunder 30-29.

The Thunder jumped out to an early lead against the Lumberjacks and never looked back. Newly named Thunder captain Jake Slaker got his team on the board first to give Bloomington the early 1-0 lead. Steven Merl continued the scoring, doubling the Thunder's lead to 2-0.

The Jacks showed resilience later in the first period, on a goal by Danny Digrande, cutting the Thunder lead in half. Helpers on that goal were from Dante Palecco and Graham Lillibridge.

But that's as close as the Jacks would get, giving up 4 tallies in the 2nd period on goals by Slaker, Merl, Baker, and Somoza respectively, taking a 6-1 deficit into the lockerroom for the 2nd intermission.

The Jacks played their best hockey of the night in the third period, splitting the frame 1-1. Lumberjack forward Dante Palecco scored the Lumberjacks lone goal of the period, while Will Harrison capitalized for the Thunder

The Jacks seek revenge in the latter half of their home and home series as they rematch the Thunder tomorrow in Bloomington at 8:00.
