Jacks Drop Series against Bombers

East Texas PumpJacks News Release

The East Texas Pump Jacks were not able to overcome the hot-hitting Brazos Valley Bombers, falling in the final game of the two-game homestand on Wednesday night, 12-1.

The long balls were plenty flying through the East Texas night. The game featured three home runs, which is a very impressive feat at Driller Park where the home team hit only one home run all of last season.

The Pump Jacks got their lone run on the board in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Ty Marlow opened the frame with a solo blast over the left field wall for his second home run of the season. Ty now tops the TCL as the only player to hit more than one home run; his home run was the second at Driller Park for the Pump Jacks (the other was hit by his brother Brooks).

Brooks Marlow showed off his arm and pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning for the Pump Jacks.

Brooks, the second basemen for the Jacks, was not the only player to play musical positions on the night. Joey Armstrong, who normally plays at third, jumped behind the plate to catch three innings. The normal catcher for East Texas, J.J. Robinson, started the game in left field and then moved to third base for an inning. Back up catcher Michael Hymes started behind the dish but then as a true utility player bounced around the infield, playing two innings at third and then an inning at second base.

The game also included the debut of new Pump Jack Jacob Kelzer out of Indiana University, who arrived to Kilgore less than five hours before game time. The Hoosier, who stands 6'8, entered the game for the Jacks in the sixth. He went on to pitch 1.1 scoreless innings allowing only one hit and striking out two batters.

Another big inning hurt the Pump Jacks as the Bombers sent nine batters to the plate in the top of the second. The Bombers registered four singles in the inning, as well as a walk and a sacrifice fly to drive home four runs. The next inning Brazos Valley knocked in another run on an RBI double. The Bombers added four more in the sixth, including a three-run homerun over the right field wall.

Then, in the top of the eighth, the Bombers knocked their second three-run homerun of the night, this time over the wall in left. The bomb gave the Bombers a 12-0 advantage.

The Pump Jacks jump on the bus Thursday morning to head back to Louisiana to face off against the Cane Cutters for their third series against the Cane Cutters. The two game series wraps up on Friday. The Jacks then return to Driller Park for a two-game series against the Texas Marshals.
