Strykers Split Doubleheader against the Marshals

The Woodlands Strykers split their doubleheader against the Texas Marshals on Wednesday night. The Strykers dropped the first game by a score of 6-3 and came back to win the second game 8-1.

Game 1

Nolan Riggs started on the mound for the Strykers. He pitched the first three innings. Zach Heard came in and finished the game out giving up three hits and recording two strikeouts.

Landon Merka hit a single in the first inning. Kevin Santana followed him with a double. Merka would score the first run of the night on a groundout by Ricky Sanchez. In the second inning, Connor Kalisky would draw a walk and then score on a single by Conner Fikes. The final run of the game came from a solo home run by Kevin Santana.

Game 2

Will Hibbs made his third start tonight and second against the Marshals, having picked up a win last week. Hibbs pitched five innings, giving up one run and three hits while striking out seven batters. Austen Gunnels came in to finish off the final two innings and struck out three batters.

In the first inning, Conner Fikes would hit a single. Kevin Santana would come up and hit a single. The next batter, Ricky Sanchez would draw a walk. Fikes would score the first run on a bases loaded walk with Dalton Perry at the plate. Brian Smith would come to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly that scored Santana. Sanchez scored the second run on a single by Dirk Masters. Conner Fikes would hit a solo home run down the right field line to score the lone run of the second inning. Sanchez would lead off the third inning with a double and would come home two batters later on a home run by Brian Smith. The final two runs of the game came on another home run by Kevin Santana that plated him and Landon Merka who had gotten on base by being hit by a pitch.

The Strykers will now travel to Brazos Valley for games starting tonight and Friday. Saturday, the team will travel south to Victoria to take on the Generals again for two game. The team returns home next Tuesday and Wednesday against the Brazos Valley Bombers. Come out to the game on Tuesday as the team will have the Woodlands High School baseball team at the game and will honor them before the game. The games next Tuesday and Wednesday start at 7:05.
