Joliet JackHammers News Release
JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers would like to congratulate Chicago Legend, Andre Dawson on his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Dawson appeared at Silver Cross Field for the 2004 Northern League All-Star Game.
Dawson received 420 of 539 votes for 77.9 percent, surpassing the 75 percent needed for induction by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Dawson, also known as "The Hawk," indeed had a Hall of Fame worthy career. He played from 1976 to 1996, hitting.279 for his career, with 438 homeruns, 1,591 RBIs, and 314 stolen bases. Dawson was named the National League Rookie of the Year while playing for the Montreal Expos in 1977 and in 1986 was donned the NL's Most Valuable Player while with the Chicago Cubs. The MVP honor was the first to be given to a player on a last place team.
Dawson will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown on July 25, 2010.
Loose Gravel: The Joliet JackHammers 2010 Home Opener will be Friday, May 28th at 7:10pm against the Lake County Fielders, one of two Northern League expansion teams. Season tickets, group outings, and suites are available now.
