Joliet JackHammers News Release
JOLIET, IL-The Joliet JackHammers, in partnership with Silver Cross Hospital, have announced an agreement to educate the public and raise money in the fight against breast cancer. The JackHammers will now host "Breast Cancer Awareness Wednesdays" in addition to the "Silver Cross Hospital Catch for the Cause" promotion at every Wednesday home game in 2007. The JackHammers begin their sixth season in the Northern League on May 17, 2007 at 7:05 p.m. at Silver Cross Field against the Calgary Vipers.
"This partnership with Silver Cross Hospital will continue to increase public awareness about breast cancer," said Kelly Sufka, the JackHammers executive vice president/general manager. "Silver Cross Hospital continues to be at the forefront of educating, researching and treating breast cancer in Will County. They are a great partner to have in the fight against this terrible disease."
The JackHammers pink jerseys will have a special logo patch on the sleeve. Silver Cross Hospital will work with the JackHammers to craft specific educational messages through public address announcements and handouts every Wednesday.
"The Silver Cross Hospital Catch for the Cause" returns for the second consecutive season. Fans will once again be given the opportunity to play catch in the outfield for one-half hour prior to each Wednesday home game.
In addition, proceeds from the fan 50/50 raffle for every Wednesday home game will be donated to the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds from a pink jersey sale later in the season will also go to the same cause.
"Once again we are happy to have the JackHammers as a partner in the battle against breast cancer," said Tracy Simmons, director of community relations/marketing at Silver Cross Hospital. "We applaud their efforts and look forward to one day beating this disease."
