Joliet JackHammers News Release
JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers are moving forward in their quest for a Northern League Championship and in doing so have named former big leaguer John Cangelosi as Special Assistant to the General Manager/Baseball Operations.
"John provides the JackHammers with a wealth of knowledge from his Major League playing experience and his contacts within the industry," says Executive Vice President and General Manager Jamie Toole. "He will work closely with me and the new field management team to bring a new brand of baseball to Joliet."
Selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 4th round of the 1982 amateur draft, Cangelosi made his Major League debut in the summer of 1985. He set an American League Rookie record the following year with 50 stolen bases.
"I want to thank the Joliet JackHammers for this great opportunity and challenge. Our goal is putting a winning team on the field along with playing the game the right way. We will focus on teaching our players how to apply themselves professionally on a daily basis and we will instill a respect for the game in our players," said Cangelosi.
Primarily an outfielder, Cangelosi played for seven teams over 13 seasons in the Majors and was a member of the 1997 World Champion Florida Marlins. Other stops included Pittsburgh, Texas, New York, and Houston, rounding out his playing days in 1999 with the Colorado Rockies. He was a lifetime .250 hitter with over 1,000 games of big league experience under his belt.
Cangelosi will be at Silver Cross Field this weekend to help introduce the JackHammers yet-to-be-named field manager to Season Ticket Holders.
