New Jersey Jackals News Release

The New Jersey Jackals'starting pitcher Aaron Myers pitched eight innings of one-run baseball as the Jackals won 5-1 over the Elmira Pioneers at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, N.J. Myers improved to 5-2 on the season and the Jackals are now in position to sweep this series against the Pioneers.

Neither Pioneer's starting pitcher Greg Keagle nor Myers allowed a run in the first three and a half innings of the ballgame. In the bottom of the fourth inning, though, the Jackals offense erupted for four runs. Jackals' second baseman Ricardo Cordova led off the inning with a double and John Lindsay had an RBI double to put the Jackals up 1-0. The Jackals capitalized on several walks by Keagle and ended the inning with a 4-0 lead.

Lindsay finished the day with two hits, as did right fielder Steve Checksfield. Zach Smithlin of the Jackals added an insurance run for the team with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Myers made sure five runs would be enough to give the Jackals a victory. The Pioneer's failed to even record a base hit off of Myers until Ryan Dorsay led off the sixth inning with a double. Myers pitched eight dominant innings, allowing only one run on two hits. Juan Rodriguez had the only other hit for the Pioneers.

Tomorrow night the Jackals look to extend their eight-game winning streak and sweep the Pioneers to complete this homestand. Joel Bennett will start for the Jackals and Saul Solveson is the expected starter for the Pioneers
