Iveson Set to Manage Heat in 2005

Tucson, AZ â April 21, 2005- The Arizona Heat of the National Pro FastPitch League has announced their new manager for the upcoming 2005 season. Stacy Iveson will lead the Heat into their second season, which begins May 26th. Stacy is currently the Head Coach of the defending NJCAA National Champion Pima Community College softball team.
Iveson, a native of Tucson, has very strong ties to the community. She began her softball playing career at Catalina High School, before heading to the University of Arizona. Stacy's college career began in 1985, the same year Mike Candrea started his illustrious coaching career with the Wildcats. As a freshman she started every game at third base, and beginning of her sophomore season as the team's catcher, starting every game at the position for her final three seasons. During her career, the Wildcats made two Women's College World Series appearances.
After her college career, Stacy remained in Tucson where she coached the Salpointe High School softball team for four years, including a State Championship in 1993. In 1995, Iveson was asked back by the Wildcats, as an assistant coach, working with the pitchers and catchers. During her six years as an Arizona assistant coach, the Wildcats won three National Championships.
In 2001, Stacy was offered the Head Coaching position at Pima Community College. The Aztecs won the 2004 NJCAA National Championship, and Stacy received National Coach of the Year honors, as well as her second ACCAC Coach of the Year award. She is also in contention for one of the coaching positions on the 2008 Olympic Team.
Stacy's acceptance of the job was due largely to the roster the Heat has put together for the 2005 season. "I really considered the roster when making my decision. There is some great talent on this team, and it was a good opportunity to coach this caliber of players." While at Arizona, Stacy coached a few of the current Heat players, including Nancy Evans, Lovie Jung, and Lauren Bauer. Another reason Stacy was interested in coaching the Heat, is the home heavy schedule that has been put together. "This gives me a great opportunity to be around softball and my family."
Stacy also felt that the National Pro FastPitch League was also moving in the right direction, providing a great opportunity for women softball players to have a softball career after college.
Stacy was born and lives in Tucson with her husband, Tom, and three year old son, Jared.
