Isles Season Opener Saturday

April 9, 2013 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release

Harrisburg, PA- The Harrisburg City Islanders will officially kick off their 2013 regular season on Saturday, April 13th in Pittsburgh against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. This will be the first ever game at the newly built Highmark Stadium. Harrisburg and Pittsburgh played three times last season, with the Islanders winning both meetings in the steel city. The two teams tied the only game they played on the Island.

It has been an up and down preseason for the Islanders, thus far, as they look to get in sync for the regular season. The club has gone 2-2-2 with victories coming against UMBC (2-0) and Villanova (1-0). The team tied Drexel (1-1) and Navy (2-2), while dropping decisions to St. Francis (2-1), and Maryland (5-1).

"The players have worked extremely hard this preseason and are ready for the season to get started in Pittsburgh on Saturday night," Becher stated.

The Islanders finished 10-7-7 a year ago which was good enough to get to the playoffs, unfortunately they were defeated 2-1 in Charleston in the opening round. The Battery went on to capture the USLPRO championship. Pittsburgh finished 8th and just missed the playoffs last season.

Pittsburgh opened their season last Saturday in Richmond where they tied the Kickers 0-0. Following the game in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg will travel to Colorado to take on the Colorado Rapids reserve team on Saturday April 20th. Their home opener will be on Saturday April 27th against the Rochester Rhinos at Skyline Sports Complex at 7:00.
