Penn FC News Release
The Harrisburg City Islanders face a daunting road trip this weekend, as the club heads to Charlotte to face the Eagles on Friday, April 30, and then to Wilmington to take on the defending PSL champion Hammerheads on Saturday, May 1. Both games will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
Charlotte (1-1-0) posted a 6-15-7 record while competing in the A-League in 2003, finishing in fourth place in the five-team Southeast Division. The Eagles are no stranger to PSL competition: from 1995-2000, Charlotte stood as one of the league's best sides. After capturing the 2000 league title with a convincing 5-0 win over the New Jersey Stallions, Charlotte began a three-year stint in the A-League that ended after 2003.
Wilmington has played in two consecutive third-division Finals, including a 2-1 double overtime win over Westchester a year ago to capture the 2003 PSL crown. The Hammerheads (1-1-0) have gone a combined 50-21-6 and captured two regular season division titles since 1999, and advanced all the way to the quarterfinals of the 2003 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, defeating the A-League's Atlanta Silverbacks and Major League Soccer's Dallas Burn along the way.
Friday's contest in Charlotte is also a U.S. Open Cup qualifying match, as was Harrisburg's season-opening 5-2 win over Northern Virginia on April 17.
