Island Storm News Release

(Charlottetown, PE) Coming off an exciting overtime win in Moncton Wednesday night, the Island STORM have made another player move by signing 6'7" Chicago native Billy Rush and releasing Johnny Mayhane.

Rush played his college ball at Robert Morris University in the NAIA and averaged nearly 16 points per game, 8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. He also shot 43% from the floor and 40% from the 3 point line. Following his college career, Rush signed a training camp contract with the Milwaukee Bucks of the NBA and later was released. He played with both Fort Wayne and Tulsa of the NBA-D League before heading to Europe for the last two seasons. In Europe Rush played for Science City Jena of the German Pro A League where he averaged over 10 points per game and nearly 4.5 rebounds while shooting 45% from the floor, over 40% from the 3 point line, and 90% from the free throw line.

"Billy was a guy I found in Philadelphia this summer," said STORM Head Coach Joe Salerno. "He was playing in the same Pro-Am tournament as Sammy Zeglinksi and Rashad Whack. We were close to striking a deal in July, but there was a still a possibility he was going to return to Germany. He is a very good athlete who can shoot the 3 with consistency, something we have been struggling to do this season. He will bring a little more size and quickness to the perimeter for us."

The Island STORM wishes Johnny Mayhane the best in his future endeavours.

The STORM continues on the road this coming Sunday in Saint John for a 2pm start. The STORM continue on the road Saturday November 29th in Halifax before getting back on home court Sunday November 30th at 2pm at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown against the Mill Rats.

STORM season tickets are still on sale at the Eastlink Centre Box Office and anyone who purchased a single game ticket for the home opener can use the cost of that ticket toward the purchase of a season ticket for the final home games.

The STORM also has a merchandise corner at Sherwood BMR on Mount Edward Road in Charlottetown with a great selection of STORM Gear. Fans may purchase STORM Gear at Sherwood BMR to get ready for the next home game or for Christmas gift buying.
