
Irvine Named to NAHL All-South Rookie Team

First year Topeka RoadRunner forward Tyler Irvine has been named to the North American Hockey League's SouthDivision All-Rookie Team, it was announced this morning. The league will beannouncing other year end awards at a future date, most likely at the RobertsonCup Finals.
In his debut season with the RoadRunners, Irvine appeared in57 games, tied for second on the team in goals (17), added 17 assists, and wassecond on the team in plus minus with a +17. His shot percentage is the best onthe team, and his mark of 4 game winning goals is tied for second most.
Listed at 5'10" and 155 lbs, Irvine plays with great speedand tenacity, and as a strong two-way player is a key component on both thepower play and penalty kill. Prior to joining the RoadRunners, Irvine starredon his high school team in Livonia, MI, cranking out an astounding 80 points in27 games. RoadRunner Head Coach/GM ScottLanger isn't surprised his young forward received this recognition. "Tyleris very deserving of this award", he said as the team hit the ice for Wednesday'spractice in preparation for the South Division Finals. "He definitely put inthe work this season, and it's paid off."
Irvine's teammate, 17 year old goaltender Matej Tomek was viewed by most as alock for the All-Rookie team but his experience playing junior hockey inSlovakia made him ineligible under league by-laws.
The RoadRunners begin defense of their NAHL South Divisionplayoff title on Friday night in North Richland Hills, TX against thetop-seeded Lone Star Brahmas.
