New Jersey Ironmen News Release

(Orlando, Fl) On a night that saw hat tricks, a goal against a power play, and a player ejected while in the penalty box, the key story of the night was the missed scoring opportunities by the Orlando Sharks in an emotional 15-12 loss against the league-leading New Jersey Ironmen.

The first quarter began as a defensive struggle that resembled the first meeting of these teams. When Sharks defenseman Bill Sedgewick was penalized for boarding, Ironmen midfielder Goran Vasic scored a three-point goal on the power play. Sharks goalkeeper Antonio Iriarte was briefly replaced by Paul Nagy. The Ironmen scored quickly on a goal by midfielder Lazo Alavanja with an assist by Vasic. Seconds later forward Mauricio Salles scored again for New Jersey. Orlando finally got on the board with a goal by forward Chris Cerroni, assisted by Sedgewick. The quarter ended with Orlando missing several scoring opportunities and trailing 7-2.

In the second quarter both team's defenses stiffened but Orlando's Cerroni and New Jersey's Vasic scored their second goals of the night. The half ended with New Jersey leading 9-4.

The third quarter mirrored the second with both teams swapping goals. Sharks midfielder Marcelo Santos scored, quickly followed by a goal from Ironmen midfielder Rachid Didouh.

The quarter ended with the score New Jersey 11, Orlando 6.

The fireworks began in the fourth quarter when Sharks' Sedgewick once again ended up in the penalty box. Vasic scored his hat trick on the ensuing power play. The home team fans got fired up as Sedgewick was ejected from the game while serving his penalty. It fired up the Sharks also. With New Jersey on the power play, Sharks Cerroni scored his hat trick. The excitement, however, was short-lived as Ironmen forward Frederico Moojen netted the ball. Seconds later, Sharks midfielder Drew Ducker scored his second goal of the year. With fans on their feet loudly cheering, Sharks defenseman JP Rodrigues thrilled them with his team-leading eighth goal of the year. The rally wasn't enough as time ran out and the Orlando Sharks fell to the New Jersey Ironmen 15-12.

The Ironmen return home on Sunday to host the Milwaukee Wave at 4:00 p.m. Former U.S. national team midfielder Tab Ramos will serve as the honorary captain.
