Jamestown Ironmen News Release
JAMESTOWN - The North American Hockey League has announced the coaches for next month's NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, with one of the spots going to Jamestown Ironmen Head Coach Dan Daikawa.
The Top Prospects Tournament is much like an "ËAll-Star weekend' in which the league's best players will have a chance to showcase their skills in front of college and pro scouts from around North America.
The Top Prospects Tournament will take place at the Troy Sports Center in Troy, Michigan from February 18-20, and will feature five regional teams. Each regional tournament team is made up of players from five NAHL teams, each sending a certain number of players to the tournament based on the team's record so far this season. Jamestown will be sending five players to participate, the maximum number allowed based on their .716 winning percentage within their group.
Daikawa will head up the Great Lakes Region team made up of players from the Ironmen, Soo Eagles, Johnstown Tomahawks, Port Huron Fighting Falcons and Michigan Warriors.
"I am very excited," said Daikawa of being selected as a Top Prospects Coach. "It was the players and our assistant coach, Yuji Iwamoto who have worked extremely hard to give me this opportunity."
Daikawa will have to make final roster decisions for his Great Lakes Top Prospect Team after considering the player nominations submitted by individual teams. Top Prospects rosters for all teams will be formally announced on Tuesday, January 22.
Each regional team will play three games at the Top Prospects Tournament, and Daikawa's Great Lakes team schedule is as follows:
Monday, February 18 - 2:00PM vs. Dakota Region
Tuesday, February 19 - 7:00PM vs. Texas Region
Wednesday, February 20 - 2:00PM vs. Midwest Region
