Ironmen Forward Earns League Honors

December 4, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Jamestown Ironmen News Release

Sometimes a change of scenery is good for a player and that can be said for Jamestown Ironmen forward Nico Sierra. The 20-year-old from Warren, Michigan, has only been with the Ironmen a few weeks after his trade from Port Huron, and already earned league honors with his performance in this past weekend's games.

Sierra was named the North American Hockey League's North Division Star of the Week after helping Jamestown to remain in first place in the North with a weekend sweep in Fresno against the Monsters.

On Friday, Sierra (5'8/165) had the game-winning goal and two assists in a 4-3 win over Fresno. The next night, Sierra scored the first goal of the game, which turned out to be the game-winner in a 4-0 shutout win. Both of Sierra's goals over the weekend were game-winners and he was also a +3 over the weekend.

"Nico has come in and been a good fit right away," said Jamestown head coach Dan Daikawa. "He brings veteran leadership to the locker room and has great speed and creates opportunities for himself."

Ironmen goaltender, Reid Mimmack has been an honorable mention for Star of the Week on three separate occasions this season, including this week after a great performance in two victories on the road against the Fresno Monsters.

Mimmack made 35 saves over the weekend and posted his second shutout of the season on Saturday. The Brainerd, Minnesota native now has recorded both shutouts in Ironmen history and has a record of 14-4 on the season while starting in net. Mimmack's success has landed him a spot on the Bemidji State University hockey team, a NCAA Division I college in Minnesota.

Sierra becomes the third Ironmen player to earn the Star of the Week honor so far this season. Tyler Dunagan did it on November 3, while Daniel Cesars earned the title back on October 22. Luc Gerdes and Dylan Zink have also been honored earlier this season as runner-ups, earning the second Stars of the Week. Huba Sekesi and Evan Ritt have each been honorable mentions once this season.

Players are receiving this type of league-wide attention due to Jamestown's overall success on the ice so far this season. The Ironmen sit at 18-6-2 with a three point lead in the North Division.

Jamestown is in the middle of a six-game road trip, and after a pair of wins this past weekend in Fresno, California, the team will travel up to Washington State for a two game set this weekend with the Wenatchee Wild. The Ironmen will then visit Johnstown for two games with the Tomahawks before returning home to host the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings on December 21 and 22.

Puck drops at 7pm on December 21 at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena. There will be live music with Chris Pierce in Sully's Irish Pub located inside the Arena from 6pm - 8pm to compliment the game. There will also be a $1 draft beer special along with an 'Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest' promotion taking place on that night.

On Saturday, the game starts at 5pm and it will represent goaltender, Reid Mimmack's final game with the Ironmen before leaving for Bemidji State University. There will be a salute to the goaltender and there will be a Reid Mimmack trading card giveaway.
