New Jersey Ironmen News Release

NEWARK, NJ (Monday, March 4, 2008) - The New Jersey Ironmen (12-10) announced today that they have acquired veteran midfielder Craig Scheer from the California Cougars in exchange for future considerations, and the club has also come to terms with forward Nebojsa Stamenkovic, son of former MISL superstar Stan Stamenkovic. Craig Scheer is a native of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and he started his career with the Baltimore Blast during the 2001-02 season, winning a league championship with the Blast in 2003. He has amassed 96 points throughout his MISL career on 44 goals and 23 assists, and he has also registered 74 blocks in 170 total games. The three-time National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American from the University of Illinois-Springfield tallied three trifectas and six two-pointers to go along with six assists and six blocks for California in 20 games this season.

"Craig is a very experienced and versatile player; with our current injury situation, a player like him could fill a variety of roles for our team," Ironmen Head Coach Omid Namazi commented. "He has played in different positions throughout his career and feels pretty comfortable at all of them, and that makes him a very valuable player."

Nebojsa Stamenkovic began his professional career by playing two seasons with the Red Star Belgrade reserve team in his native Serbia. In 2001 he joined the Milwaukee Rampage of the USL A-League. Stamenkovic was born in Memphis and grew up in Baltimore, and his father, Stan, is one of the most recognizable names in indoor soccer history. His father was a prolific goal scorer that was known for his incredible footwork and ability to beat multiple defenders on a single run. The three-time MISL All-Star Game MVP was also named league MVP in 1984 while playing with the Baltimore Blast.

"Nebo is a player that has been training with us, and he is becoming more familiar with the target position," Namazi stated. "He knows the system, and I think he can come and fit in right away."

The Ironmen are currently riding a two-game winning streak after defeating the Orlando Sharks 27-5 this past Sunday at Prudential Center. The 27 points marked a season high for the entire MISL, as did the 22-point win. New Jersey now heads out west for a two-game swing in Monterrey this Thursday and California on Saturday before returning to Newark on March 15th to host the Chicago Storm. That Saturday contest will be "Boy Scout Night" at Prudential Center, and tickets can be purchased today by calling 1-800-IRONMEN!
