Milwaukee Mustangs News Release

An energized Bradley Center crowd helped lead the Milwaukee Iron to another home win. The Iron were able to hold off a persistent Dallas Vigilantes team, cruising to a 63-38 win.

Starting the Iron attack was Tiger Jones, as he caught a first quarter offering from quarterback Chris Greisen, putting Milwaukee up 7-0.

The Vigilantes would return the favor, as they were able to put points on the board on their first possession as well.

Another Iron score late in the first quarter put Milwaukee up 13-7, and on the ensuing Dallas possession the Iron defense held strong on a fourth and short to give the ball back to Milwaukee.

Capitalizing on the defensive effort was Iron wide receiver Antoine Burns, who is just one of three Iron players to return from last years' squad. Burns made several plays down the stretch for Milwaukee, racking up 121 yards and three scores on just eight receptions.

That's when Vigilantes newly named head coach James Fuller decided to roll the dice on special teams. The first of four onside kicks went sour, but after a Dallas field goal Fuller went back to the bag of tricks and tried the onside kick again. This time Dallas was able to fall on it.

The Vigilantes would not be able to take advantage of the Fuller gamble coughing up the ball on the Iron 16, it was Zarnell Fitch recovering for Milwaukee.

The Iron were able to convert on the Dallas turnover. Fullback Tyre Young bounced off two would-be tacklers for the first of two scores on the night. That bruising score would give Milwaukee a 27-17 lead going into the half. Young finished the night with 12 yards and two touchdowns on four carries.

Dallas cut the lead to just three with a Collin Drafts pass to Kenny Henderson for a five-yard touchdown. That was as close as the Vigilantes would get the rest of the night.

Greisen hit Burns with eight minutes left in the third to extend the Iron lead to 10 at 34-24. Greisen finished the night with 295 yards and six touchdowns.

Iron defensive end Khreem Smith came up with his fifth and sixth sacks of the season for his third game with two sacks. His second sack went for a safety to put the Iron up 36-24. A rushing touchdown by Greisen to end the third put the Iron up 43-24 going into the final frame.

Two additional onside attempts by Dallas failed, giving the Iron tremendous field position and eventually leading to a rushing touchdown by Young and a touchdown pass from Greisen to Forse, putting the Iron up 56-38 with five minutes left in the game.

A final touchdown from Greisen to Burns closed out the game with 32 seconds left in the game to give the Iron the 63-38 win.

The Iron will travel to Arizona to take on the Rattlers Saturday, June 5th at 9:30 CDT. The Iron's next home game will be on June 12 against the Cleveland Gladiators.
