Iowa Cubs News Release

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento River Cats (59-68) avoided the series sweep, downing the Iowa Cubs (57-70) 7-1, Friday at Raley Field. Iowa went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 runners on base.

Kristopher Negrî"n, Juan Perez and Jeimer Candelario each collected a pair of hits with Candelario driving in Iowa's sole run of the game.

Kelby Tomlinson got the offense going with a one-out triple off Drew Rucinski (6-13) in the first inning. Mac Williamson claimed the RBI with a sacrifice fly and the River Cats captured the first lead.

Iowa scored its first run in the third, sparked by a leadoff single from John Andreoli. Munenori Kawasaki executed a sacrifice bunt to move Andreoli to second and the I-Cubs knotted the score with an RBI single from Candelario.

Sacramento got the run right back in the third on a solo homer from Gorkys Hernandez and ran away with the game from there. Three scored in the fourth on a bases-loaded double from Grant Green. Green was locked in all night as another RBI single in the sixth extended the River Cats' lead to 6-1.

Iowa would load the bases twice in this span, but came up empty each time.

Kelly Tomlinson knocked in another run in the seventh to chase Rucinski from the game after 6.1 innings of work. His final line included 13 hits, seven earned runs, one walk and an uncharacteristically-low two strikeouts.

In his first appearance since Aug. 2 following a stint on the disabled list, Giovanni Soto entered in relief and contributed 1.2 scoreless innings, but the damage was already done.

Iowa put up a small fuss in the ninth as Perez drilled a two-out double, but he was left standing on second base.

Iowa returns to Principal Park for eight games in nine days beginning Saturday with a 7:08 p.m. game against Memphis. For more information or tickets visit www.iowacubs.com.
