Introducing the 2005 Rage Cheerleaders and Director Kathy Martinez

St Louis, MO - On Saturday, January 22 Rage Dance Director Kathy Martinez, of St. Peters Academy of Dance, held the first official cheerleader tryout of the RiverCity Rage. In front of nearly a hundred spectators, the nine judges had a tough task of cutting the total number of participants down to only 17.

The list of judges included, Jerry Lakin, Moses Regular, Brandon Gregory, Clay Groefsema, Diane Burkholder, Clarence Jones, Tye Elliott, Scott Wilson, and Mayor Shawn Brown. Each participant was judged on technique, showmanship, presentation, performance and appearance.

Participants were taught a short dance routine before taking the stage in groups of four. Each group then had two chances to impress the judges in hopes of securing a spot on the 2005 squad.

Under the guidance of Kathy Martinez, the 2005 squad is focused on igniting the crowds at each Rage home game. “I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised with the girls on game day,” said Kathy Martinez.

Having studied all forms of dance for over 25 years, Kathy has worked with many well-known choreographers and has traveled throughout the U.S. as a National Talent Competition Judge. Her performance company (competition) students & groups consistently place in the top 10 at National Talent Competitions. Many of her students have been chosen to perform in the Muny Opera, the State Ballet of Missouri, Commercials and National Television Shows, including local & National Beauty Contest winners.As the owner of St. Peters Academy of Dance, Kathy is one of the areas Top Choreographers and was chosen as one of the top 40 business professionals under the age of 40 by St. Charles Magazine. In only 20 short years St. Peters Academy of Dance has received prestigious recognition as one of the top 10 studios and the United States, and was voted as the No. 1 dance studio in St. Charles County by the Suburban Journals.

“We are extremely excited to have Kathy Martinez as our Dance Director for 2005,” stated Morris Groves, Director of Operations for the Rage. “We have high expectations of everyone within our organization, from players to interns, and I know Kathy will surpass those expectations.”
