Danbury Whalers News Release

This Saturday it is going to be an incredible night at the Danbury Ice Arena.

HVCASA - the Housatanic Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse is sponsoring Black Saturday with great prize giveaways throughout the night.

TK's American Café is sponsoring New Haven Night - a tribute to professional hockey in New Haven. The Whalers will be wearing throwing back uniforms from the days in the Coliseum and there will be an appearance by former New Haven Nighthawk Nick Fotiu and Rich Hanley the Producer of Last Days of the Coliseum.

On this night as well, Interlude, a Danbury based community organization, will be hosting a fund raising event.

Interlude, Inc. is a community-based mental health agency serving the Greater Danbury area in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Since 1978, Interlude has provided residential and community services to men and women diagnosed with a mental illness. Interlude provides two levels of residential services to men and women who are diagnosed with a primary psychiatric disorder and/or a co-occurring substance abuse disorder.

Interlude's Mission is

To provide housing, support services and advocacy to men and women with mental illness to help them become more independent in their community.

* Interlude, Inc. provides 24 hour supportive residential services to 26 men and women who are diagnosed with a mental illness, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, etc. Clients may also have a co-occurring substance use disorder

* At Interlude we are proud to provide a warm home-like environment in which people can grow.

* Interlude believes that you must treat the whole person and not just an illness. We take a holistic approach to our care and programs.

* Each program is specifically tailored to the needs of each individual client, ranging from a more intensive level of 24-hour staff support to a less intensive outreach level. The goal of our programs is to help clients to live independent and fulfilling lives in the community.

* At Interlude we focus on skill building. We help the clients learn to budget, care for a home, maintain their personal hygiene, travel independently, interact with others, and follow-up on medical appointments and medication regimes. We foster trust and continue to help clients become more independent. In the majority of cases, we are able to help our clients develop the skill sets that will allow them to live safely and independently in the community

Also as part of the night's promotions, rocking the DIA will be the band The Spanish Channel.

Recent highlights for TPC include:

- Opening for Tim Reynolds & TR3 (of Dave Matthews Band) - A sold-out NYC CD Release Show - Winner in the Midas Rock The Highway national band contest - A mention in the November 2010 issue of Spin Magazine - A performance at Atlantic City's Caesar's Palace

In addition, the band wrote and recorded the theme for Danbury Whalers played before the start of every 3rd period home game, and their new album has been receiving airplay on the Wesleyan University station WESU-FM as well as the Western Connecticut State University's WXCI-FM. The Spanish Channel has performed live in-studio at both stations. The band is touring the eastern US in fall 2011.
